Here we are at the private view of Material Power: Rewoven, to see my work 'Held Breath' in situ at Hardwick Hall.
It was very surreal to see all those stitches I made with my own hands in fleeting moments showcased alongside the vast spectacle of beauty and power that is Bess of Hardwick's incredible home, in the same walls as the Gideon Tapestries, paintings of Elizabeth I & Mary Queen of Scots and alongside not only other contemporary artists, but the work of artisans from centuries past.
It reminded me I can still make art, even as a mother, and to remember I'm following in the footsteps of strong, passionate and uplifting women who have had to find pockets of time to make for hundreds of years. I'm officially part of the club ♀️✊🏻
