While we were aboard the Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas in Alaska, we tried out the North Star observation capsule. The North Star offers you the ability to enjoy a 360-degree view of your surroundings from over 300 feet above sea level. Alaska was a fantastic location to try this unique Quantum Class feature, although even without the Alaska beauty to take in from such heights, the views of the Quantum of the Seas from up there were also spectacular. On our trip the North Star offered a complimentary and paid option. For the free option the capsule would rise straight up. In the paid option (around $20 per person) the capsule would rise and also hang over the ship. The times and location of the ship also factored into the paid vs free, with the paid one usually occurring at the more scenic areas. If you’re ever onboard a Quantum Class ship, you should give this a try! The only frustration was that guests had to reserve a time slot for this attraction and all of the slots were booked up as soon as we boarded. The one we filmed this on was only added much later in the cruise, which I speculate from other guests complaining about being unable to participate.
