Social orders and the war on the territory of Ukraine

Описание к видео Social orders and the war on the territory of Ukraine

During the three years of the Russian-Ukrainian war, a large number of books and videos dedicated to it were published. However, the authors of the absolute majority of them suffer from binary thinking, that is, considering this phenomenon from the point of view of only one party involved in this war. And these parties, as it has now become quite obvious to everyone, are three, namely Russia, Ukraine and Western countries led by the United States. In this talk, I analyse how the social rules of the parties involved gave rise to this conflict.
The social order in force in a particular country is understood as a set of social rules in force in that country, supported by certain beliefs. These rules define the power relations that take place in this country. I have called the Western social order the monetary social order, in particular because in it money is the main source of power. In the international arena, in the context of globalization, this social order makes it easy for foreign capital to access to the resources of formally sovereign states. The West is trying to impose such an order around the world, but it does not always succeed. After the fall of the Soviet Union, such an attempt was made in relation to all the constituent republics of the USSR, including Russia and Ukraine. The post-soviet social orders of these two countries were very similar in the 1990s, but after Vladimir Putin came to power, the social orders of these countries began to diverge significantly.
Based on the methodology of historical institutionalism, I have examined in this talk the evolution of the social orders of all three parties of the conflict and how these orders ultimately led to the war on the territory of Ukraine.
