Unsurprisingly, Huang Gai is bottom-tier. The Survival Guide playstyle was a novel idea, but unsustainable and inconsistent for 2 reasons: Archers, and Huang Gai's TERRIBLE True Musou ending.

Out of the three bottom-tier character (the other 2 being Sun Ce and Zhang Jiao), Huang Gai is the strongest during Rage though, which earns him the top spot in this tier. During rage, try to freeze an officer with C6 and DON'T LET A CROWD SWARM YOUR BACK! Once the officer is frozen, hit 'em with your juggling musou.

Outside of Rage, his square string from the 3rd hit onward is completely broken, but he has no usable charge attack before C5 and C6, or a very safe jump charge, hence his bottom tier. The next best thing to do is to execute the 5 hits of his square string AS the officer and his crowd is approaching, with the hope that you can time it just right for C6 to kick in PRECISELY as the officer is about to swing at you. More than 50% of the time, with True Way of Musou equipped, Huang Gai can kill an officer in just one musou if he successfully freezes him, which is much more than can be said about Sun Ce and Zhang Jiao.

For dueling, use C5, but make sure to clean up ANY peon following the enemy officer. If even one of them is left standing, that will be a problem for Huang Gai during a duel.
