The Casino cocktail makes one of the first appearances in the Savoy cocktail book by Harry Craddock. This was released in the 1930s based on a collection of recipes served at the Savoy Hotel Bar in London, England.

Old Tom Gin differs from a regular London Dry as it tends to be a little bit sweeter. The reason for this is because when Old Tom Gin was popular in the earlier times, distillation was still not as good as we have it now. Because of this distillers would add a little bit of sweetness to mask imperfections in the gins. Advanced distillation techniques allowed for a higher quality, drier product. These future offerings became known as London Dry style gins.

Although Old Tom Gin disappeared for a long time around the time after prohibition, many distilleries began to produce the product from old recipes yet again. Thanks to this we are now able to recreate these fantastic old time cocktails once again.

Seriously, if you come across a bottle of Ransom Old Time Gin in the liquor store I highly suggest grabbing one.

Recipe:
1 1/2 oz Old Tom Gin
3/4 oz Maraschino Liqueur
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
2 Dashes Orange Bitters
Garnish with a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry
