The TIFLIC Book Scanner is a very easy to build, high-speed, portable, book scanner for smart-phones, or other compact cameras with remote triggers (or remote control via smart-phone WiFi or NFC One-touch).

Tests show the TIFLIC Book Scanner delivers a sustained, time averaged, net throughput (including interruptions) of ~900 pages/hour. Between various interruptions -- such as separating stuck pages or re-positioning the book -- scanning proceeds at rates up to 1500 pages/hour, as shown in the video. Paperbacks can be scanned slightly slower without damaging their bindings, as also shown in the video.

The TIFLIC Book Scanner is mostly built with plumbing parts and various nuts and bolts, all available at local hardware stores, and supplemented with a few ready-made, inexpensive parts available on Amazon/eBay. It requires an absolute minimal amount of handiwork (just drilling 9 holes and 7 cuts with a hacksaw) with a few basic hand tools.
