Geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies the sizes, shapes, positions angles and dimensions of things. Flat shapes like squares, circles, and triangles are a part of flat geometry and are called 2D shapes. These shapes have only 2 dimensions, the length and the width. Solid objects are also known as 3D objects having the third dimension of height or depth. The vertex of a shape where two edges meet form an angle. Different shapes in geometry have different angle measures. A point in geometry is a location. It has no size i.e. no width, no length and no depth. A point is shown by a dot. A line is defined as a line of points that extends infinitely in two directions. It has one dimension, length. Points that are on the same line are called collinear points. A part of a line that has defined endpoints is called a line segment. Two lines that meet in a point are called intersecting lines. In geometry, a ray refers to a line that has a single point of origin or endpoint that extends infinitely in one particular direction. An example of a ray is a ray of the sun in space. In this example, the sun is the endpoint while the light ray continues on indefinitely. In this video, we will cover:
