Calin Rovinescu, 2016 Concordia Honorary Doctorate

Calin Rovinescu was appointed President and Chief Executive O cer of Air Canada on April 1, 2009.
Rovinescu is also the Chairman of the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board, the controlling body of the Star Alliance and is a member of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) having served as its Chairman from June 2014 to June 2015. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors of BCE Inc. and of the Business Council of Canada.
From 2004 to 2009, Rovinescu was a Co-founder and Principal of Genuity Capital Markets, an independent investment bank.
Rovinescu first joined Air Canada in 2000 as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy and also held the position of Chief Restructuring O cer during the airline’s 2003-2004 restructuring.
Prior to 2000, he was the Managing Partner of the law firm Stikeman, Elliott in Montreal, where he practiced law for over 20 years in the areas of corporate nance and mergers and acquisitions, and was a member of the firm’s Partnership Board and Executive Committee.
Rovinescu received his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1980, his LL.L. from the University of Montreal in 1978, and his D.E.C. from McGill University in 1974. He is a recipient of Honorary Doctorates from each of the University of Ottawa and the University of Montreal, both awarded in 2014. Rovinescu was named the 14th Chancellor of the University of Ottawa in November 2015.

M. Rovinescu préside également le conseil de direction qui chapeaute le réseau Star Alliance. Il siège en outre au conseil des gouverneurs de l’Association du Transport Aérien International (IATA), dont il a été président de juin 2014 à juin 2015. De plus, il est membre du conseil d’administration de BCE inc. et du Conseil canadien des a aires.
Cofondateur de Marchés des capitaux Genuity, une banque d’investissement indépendante, M. Rovinescu en a été le directeur de 2004 à 2009.
Calin Rovinescu est entré une première fois au service d’Air Canada en 2000 à titre de vice-président général, Croissance et stratégie de l’entreprise. Il y a également exercé la fonction de chef de la restructuration durant la réorganisation de 2003-2004.
Avant 2000, M. Rovinescu a été associé directeur du cabinet d’avocats Stikeman Elliott, à Montréal. Il y a exercé le droit pendant plus de 20 ans dans les domaines du financement des sociétés ainsi que des fusions et acquisitions, et y a siégé au conseil de la société et au comité exécutif.
Calin Rovinescu a obtenu un baccalauréat en droit de l’Université d’Ottawa en 1980, une licence en droit de l’Université de Montréal en 1978 et un diplôme d’études collégiales de l’Université McGill en 1974. En 2014, l’Université d’Ottawa et l’Université de Montréal lui ont décerné un doctorat honorifique. En novembre 2015, M. Rovinescu est devenu le 14e chancelier de l’Université d’Ottawa.
