The Qur’an places great emphasis on Dhikr (remembrance of Allah), reminding believers of its importance for peace, guidance, and success. Here are some key verses and hadiths about remembrance of Allah:

Remembrance brings peace of heart

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28)

Remember Allah often

“O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance,
And exalt Him morning and afternoon.”
(Surah Al-Ahzab 33:41–42)

Allah remembers those who remember Him

“So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:152)

Dhikr is greater

“Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows what you do.”
(Surah Al-‘Ankabut 29:45)

Remembrance at all times

“…Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and who reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], ‘Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.’”
(Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:191)

Allah is with those who remember Him

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Allah says: ‘I am as My servant thinks of Me, and I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me to himself, I remember him to Myself; and if he remembers Me in an assembly, I remember him in an assembly better than it.’”
— Sahih al-Bukhari (7405), Sahih Muslim (2675)

Light and protection

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah.”
— Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi (3375)

Gardens of Paradise

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When you pass by the gardens of Paradise, then graze as you like.” They asked, “What are the gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “Circles of remembrance (dhikr).”
— Musnad Ahmad (12026), Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi (3510)

Remembrance is greater than everything

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not remember his Lord is like the example of the living and the dead.”
