Suriname part 4 - Paramaribo & country houses

Paramaribo en landhuizen
In 2022 maakten wij een reis naar Suriname, waarbij wij telkens uitstapjes van enkele dagen maakten vanuit Paramaribo. De reis was georganiseerd door Waterproof Tours. Dit is de laatste video van de serie. Tot nu toe was er weinig in deze serie te zien van Paramaribo. Ook heb ik twee landhuizen buiten beschouwing gelaten. Allereerst Paramaribo, waar we een stadstocht maakten op de fiets, onder deskundige leiding van Mid Zandveld. Fietsen in Paramaribo is spannend, maar als je gewend bent valt het best mee. Verder gaat het programma over Little Paradise in Domburg, en Linde's Lust in Sidoredjo, Saramacca. Beide landhuizen liggen in een grote tuin met tropische planten en vruchtbomen. Vanuit Linde's Lust bezochten we een inheemse mandenvlechter, die uitleg gaf over zijn kunstwerken. Tot slot onze laatste dag in Paramaribo, toen de straten waren uitgestorven vanwege een feestdag van de Saramaccanen, en in de Palmentuin een groot feest plaatsvond van deze groep Marrons. Een soort Keti Koti in Paramaribo...

Paramaribo and country houses
In 2022 we made a trip to Suriname, formerly known as Dutch Guyana. The trip was managed by Waterproof Tours and we made short excursions each lasting a few days, from the capital Paramaribo. This is the final video of the series. Until now, Paramaribo didn't feature very often, and I also left out two country houses where we stayed. First of all Paramaribo, where we made a city tour by bicycle, under the expert guidance of Mid Zandveld. Cycling in Paramaribo is hair-raising, but once you get used to it, it's not too bad. The programme continues with two country houses: 'Little Paradise' in Domburg, and 'Linde's Lust' in Sidoredjo, Saramacca. Both country houses are located in a large garden with tropical plants and fruit trees. From Linde's Lust we visited an indigenous basket weaver, who explained about his works of art and taught another artist some of his craft. Finally, our last day in Paramaribo, where the streets were deserted because of a holiday of the Saramaccan (Saamaka) people, and a great party of this Maroon tribe took place in the Palm Gardens.
