When I graduated in 2015 with a degree in Sport Science, I thought my path was clear. But I quickly realised opportunities were limited and salaries were modest.

So, I pivoted. I retrained as a Physiotherapist and built my own practice. Rewarding as it was, I knew healthcare alone wouldn’t get me to where I wanted to be.

Back to university again — this time to study Computer Science with Data Science. That decision was a game-changer. It opened doors to international opportunities, from working in Spain to entering the Lloyd’s of London insurance market.

Today, I’m not just a Sport Scientist, Physiotherapist, or Data Analyst. I’m a blend of all three — and I still operate in each sector.

The days of specialising in one narrow field are fading. Modern careers demand a portfolio of transferable skills: marketing, project management, content creation, reporting & analytics, rehabilitation, strength & conditioning. These skills not only make me employable, but also empower me to run businesses.

As Michael Tabaride says, “The Portfolio Career” is the new way of thinking about work.
