Sue Holliday interviews Joanna Wildy about her new book Mind & Membrain Head Trauma and Mental Health - a New Approach to Diagnosis and Treatment.
Jo Wildy describes how she, as a manual therapist/osteopath, became so interested in her patient's emotional wellbeing as well as their physical well-being and what drove her to write this book. She believes that a condition that she calls 'Membrain Disorder' goes someway to explaining the link between knocks to the head and mood disorder and early onset brain disease. There are certain cases of those suffering with depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis and many other labelled mental health conditions where the patient has experienced head trauma either in the past, ongoing or in the present. Head trauma takes many forms including hard sudden impacts to the head, repetitive trauma as seen in contact sports or slow sustained ongoing trauma as seen in orthodontic treatment. It is all explained in the book!
