Watch as Senior Editor Patrick Meitin describes a review for the Hoyt Carbon Defiant which is now a lighter, better balanced, and an impressively smooth bow with impressive results. As much as you’d like to think much couldn’t change on new carbon style compound bows, Hoyt has done it again. The Carbon Defiant includes three Helical Flex Tune hollow carbon tubes that optimize structural integrity. The carbon mainframe of this compound has 11 times higher stiffness-to-weight ratio than aluminum while reducing vibration and flex of the bow. The risers are seven times tougher than aluminum and contain more effective thermal insulation properties, keeping the bow from feeling like ice in freezing conditions. Hoyt’s PerfectBalance Stabilization System places the stabilizer ¾-inch left of center to maintain stability, even with heavy accessories such as bulky sights and loaded quivers.

The Carbon Defiant also includes Hoyt’s DFX Cam which was engineered to maximize string angle, create longer axle-to-axle dimensions at full draw, and include standard string stops with an optional limb-stop. Hoyt designed the DFX Cam to shoot like like the draw length has a few added inches, and also bring the peep closer to your eye for better head position and longer, more accurate sight radius. The DFX works directly with Carbon Defiant’s Ultraflex Limbs which use their length to increase efficiency, and enhance shooting comfort, form, and accuracy.

A couple major improvements in this new Hoyt compound are the Limb Shox pressure-fit rubber module, and Carbon Defiant’s ProLock Pocket which holds Shock-Rod Technology dampeners beneath the base of each split-limb set. The Pro-Fit Custom Grip is also shifted forward slightly, and the offset stabilizer bushing is flush to the riser instead of extended. Silent Shelf Technology, Stealth Shot string stop, zero-stretch FUSE Custom Bowstrings, and Zero Torque Cable Guard System still remain on this compound bow. Coming out of the box, this bow weighs 3.6 pounds, and is an incredible upgrade to Hoyt’s previous carbon compound bows.
