The Gallic Wars (58–50 BCE) were a series of military campaigns led by Julius Caesar, aiming to bring the vast territory of Gaul (modern-day France, Belgium, and parts of Switzerland and Germany) under Roman control. At the time, Gaul was a fragmented region inhabited by various Celtic tribes, often at odds with one another.

Julius Caesar, seeking to bolster his political and military prestige, launched a series of meticulously planned campaigns. He capitalized on tribal rivalries, forming alliances with some tribes while decisively defeating others in battle. His legions proved formidable against the loosely organized Gallic forces.

Key moments included the Siege of Alesia in 52 BCE, where Caesar's forces surrounded the stronghold of Gallic chieftain Vercingetorix,
