Описание к видео RONGMEI NAGA COUNCIL OPPOSES OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION IN ZEILAD WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) strongly opposes proposed oil and gas exploration in the Zeilad Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamenglong district, Manipur. This sanctuary is rich in biodiversity, home to wildlife like tigers, leopards, gibbons, hornbills, and pythons, as well as Zeilad Lake, the largest lake in the area. The Union Environment Ministry panel has granted initial approval for Stage-1 clearance of the project. The RNCM urges individuals and groups not to support the initiative, warning that such support could be viewed as treason. The council argues that the exploration plan violates the rights of tribal communities, referencing Article 371 (C) of the Indian Constitution, which protects indigenous hill dwellers in Manipur. The RNCM calls for public and stakeholder unity against the project, expressing concerns about threats to their rights and territorial integrity. Environmentalists and indigenous groups also fear the potential harm to the region’s biodiversity from this exploration.
