A series of misc. shots showing effect of flash burn to several bamboo trees growing on a levee in the mItake-Machi district of Hiroshima. MCU Pointer follows area of flash burn to S side of tombstone located in cemetery approx. 150 feet from zero at 350 degrees. Also note the upper displacement. MS Granite tombstone (same location in W section of cemetery shows circular flash burn shadow caused by position of incense burner at time of detonation of bomb. Flash burn is clearly shown by removal of the burner. CU Granite tombstone. N side of stone on which cylindrical stone rests shows the flash burn shadow cast on N side of base. Black pencil is used as a pointer to illustrate shadow area. MCU Base of stone monument which contains two holes at right and left sides for holding flowers. A shadow was cast on granite by a flower bouquet at time of blast. Scene is re-enacted by showing a bouquet of flowers and then removed to show shadow. MCU Stone monument located in SW section of cemetery shows flash burned area on granite and shadows cast by the stone cap on the base upon which it rests (view is looking NE. MS Stone lantern base, looking SE at the W side of the stone located approx. 1750 feet from zero at 160 degrees, showing a shadow cast by upper section of the stone on the flash-burned base. This lantern is situated on the E side of the S entrance to the shrine just W of Court of Appeals. MS Same scene looking NW at SW corner of the monument contrasting the flash-burned side with S side which was effected. MCU Pan from top side of SW corner to the base of the monument. MCU Granite Pekinese monument standing guard on the W side of S enteance to the shrine showing face and forehead and part of the head which were effected by flash burn. CU Head of Pekinese monument which faces W showing the line of demarkation between flash-burned area and area not effected (pointer used to show lines. MS Base of a granite stone lantern which stood on the W side of the S entrance to the Shinto Shrine located approx. 1750 from zero at 169 degrees, which indicates flash-burned area and shadow was cast by an additional stone which rested atop it at the time of the blast. MS SW corner showing flash-burned and protected parts. White pebble is removed by hand to show shadow impression. MS MC Pan up along base of stone railing S side of entrance to Shinto Shrine showing the shadow cast on granite base by the granite posts which were swept away by the blast. MS Looking SE at the SW corner of a monument showing a flash-burned area on a block of granite employed as a base where the Pekinese Symbol is in the N side of the entrance to the inner shrine, located 1750 feet from zero at 159 degrees. In this view the area on which sunlight falls is almost the same as portion of the surface exposed to flash burn. MCU Looking at the NE corner of the same monument showing flash-burned area. MS Looking N at the S side of a wooden post located just E of the entrance to the inner part of the shrine showing the effect of flash burn. MCU Pan bottom to top showing the effect of flash burn. CU Rop portion of the SE corner showing wooden post complete with metal ornamentation around its top. The metal is removed in order to contrast the S side of the post which was flash-burned with the W side which was not exposed to the flash. CU The bottom part of SE corner of the same post, during the removal of the metal ornamentation from the base in order to contrast the area on the S side, which was exposed to flash, with that on the the E side which was not. MCU An iron chain, surrounding flowers bed inner shrine, whise exposed side was flash-burned. The chain is turned showing the contrast. MS Looking generally N along the line of granite post which bounded E edge of the inner shrine showing three of the displaced granite posts reset in their original positions. Each of the three posts is then removed in order to reveal the flash-burned area and the shadow cast on the base of the railing by the granite post before they were displaced by blast. MS Looking SE across the SW corner of the granite pedestal supporting the Pekinese on the N side of the E entrance to the inner shrine showing the contrast between the area effected by flash burn and that which was protected from flash. MS Looking S at the NE corner of the same pedestal showing the effect of flash bomb. MS Looking NE pan up from base to top of the wooden post just E of the E entrance to the inner shrine showing contrast between the flash-burned S side of the post and the uneffected W side of the post. MCU looking NE upper section of the same post contrasting the S side which was flsh burned with the W side which was not exposed to the flash. MS Looking N, the S side of granite lantern showing the wooden framework on upper section replaced, nearly as possible as original position. This granite lanter
