Tesla is seeking a more favorable tariff rate, arguing it receives less state support than other Chinese manufacturers. The European Commission confirmed Tesla's request for an individual duty rate assessment.

Other Chinese manufacturers like BYD, Geely, and SAIC will also face tariffs. BYD will see a 17.4% tariff on its battery electric vehicles, Geely 20%, and SAIC 38.1%. Plug-in hybrids are exempt, benefiting companies like BYD that produce both types.

In the US, the Biden administration has imposed 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. Elon Musk opposed these measures, stating Tesla competes well in China without tariffs or special support.
