Filmed at King’s Place Hall Two, in London on September 30th 2022, NW Live Arts presents the their concert, Finding my Voice exploring what it means to lose, find and have a voice. This was the culmination of a collaborative project bringing together four wonderful musicians - Alice Zawadzki (voice/violin), Laura van der Heijden (voice/cello), Sidiki Dembele (djembe, kamelan n’goni, calabash), and Kuljit Bhamra MBE (tabla), with four writers from 'Write to Life', the creative writing and performance group of Freedom from Torture. The celebratory programme includes a vibrant mix of song, instrumental music, including solo cello movements by Bach, West African ensemble pieces, Indian inspired contemporary music and folksongs from four continents. Interleaved are readings of extraordinary and beautiful poems about 'finding a voice’ as a migrant arriving in the UK, performed with specially devised musical accompaniment.

We curate performances of inspired music-making by world-class professional musicians from different cultures, together with storytelling by people from marginalised communities.

At our events, you will be exhilarated by an exciting feast of music from around the world, underpinned by powerful storytelling from those who face challenges in their daily lives.

We are dedicated to creating an inclusive space for people to explore their individual creativity, whilst building self-esteem and confidence. Our extraordinary musicians work sensitively with our community participants to present a woven narrative of music and words which reflect themes of social injustice and the environment.
