Ellen Gilland, an elderly woman from Daytona Beach, Florida, has pleaded no contest to charges of manslaughter with a firearm and aggravated assault in connection to the self-inflicted death of her terminally ill husband, Jerry Gilland.

Prosecutors allege that Ellen Gilland assisted her husband in his self-murder inside AdventHealth Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment. When hospital staff intervened, Gilland reportedly fired a weapon at the ceiling, leading to a dramatic police standoff.

Initially pleading not guilty, Gilland has now accepted a plea deal and faces a 3 to 10-year prison sentence in today’s hearing.
