The Bugatti Tourbillon represents a significant step forward for the luxury supercar brand, combining cutting-edge hybrid technology with a completely new platform. This fresh direction allows for innovations in design, aerodynamics, and powertrain integration that were not possible with the platform shared by the Veyron and Chiron models. At the heart of the Tourbillon is its groundbreaking powertrain. A naturally aspirated 8.3-liter V-16 engine takes center stage, delivering high-revving performance while being paired with an advanced plug-in hybrid system. The new engine’s length posed a design challenge, as it is considerably longer than the 8.0-liter W-16 engine of its predecessors. Bugatti tackled this by repositioning the fuel tanks to the sides of the chassis, preserving cabin space while avoiding a longer wheelbase. To further optimize space, the seats are fixed in place for height adjustments only, while the pedal box moves to accommodate different driver preferences.

Complementing the V-16 is an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and a rear-mounted 250-kilowatt (335-horsepower) electric motor. At the front, two additional 250-kilowatt motors provide all-wheel-drive capability. Power for the electric motors comes from a T-shaped 25-kilowatt-hour battery strategically placed in the center of the chassis, optimizing weight distribution and the center of gravity. This hybrid system allows the Tourbillon to offer up to 37 miles of electric-only driving, based on the European Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure standards.

Cooling such a high-performance system requires innovative solutions. The Tourbillon boasts eight radiators, with five positioned at the front. These radiators ensure optimal cooling for the engine, interior, and electrical components, drawing air through Bugatti’s iconic horseshoe grille.

Despite its complex technology, Bugatti has managed to keep the Tourbillon lighter than the Chiron, enhancing agility and performance. With a staggering 1,800 horsepower, this hybrid marvel can rocket from zero to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds—rivaling even electric hypercars.

Though production does not begin until 2026, every one of the 250 units, priced at a minimum of four million dollars, has already been sold. The Tourbillon is not just a car—it is a testament to Bugatti’s ability to redefine what is possible in the world of performance and luxury.
