In the beginning max is grieving about the death of her brother Ben, she breaks up with logan and finds Alec come in to her life. At first it is hard for her to deal with the facet that Alec looks like ben and keeps pulling away but than she confesses the truth of ben's death and Alec becomes the one thing that she needs the most.
