SAN FRANCISCO — A woman has been arrested almost four weeks after she jumped off of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge while trying to evade police. Police say that Erylnn Sanchez Edwards was driving under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, and was driving a car stolen from Los Angeles when police tried to apprehend her.

At around 2 a.m. on August 12, police patrolling the Bay Bridge last month saw a car on the other side of the lane spinning out of control. The officers turned their vehicle around at Treasure Island and made their way to the 2014 Nissan Maxima, which had crashed on the bridge.

When police pulled up they saw three women standing in the pedestrian walkway. The driver of the vehicle, Edwards, climbed over the outer railing and either fell or jumped off the bridge. She fell 70 feet into the water below and police lost sight of her when her body disappeared under the bridge.

The woman was later picked up at the toll plaza by a dump truck, a California Highway Patrol spokesman told CBS San Francisco.

After receiving a tip that Edwards was in Oakland, police officers located and arrested the 25-year-old woman on suspicion of vehicle theft, driving while under the influence, among other crimes.
