Описание к видео My "Zen Way of Tea" - soft Zen ambience, no words. Wabicha, Tea ceremony Chado [ASMR]

I just found this authentic Japanese Zen Tea Ceremony dish set, expertly crafted and artistically designed. I just love discovering historical treasures at thrift stores scattered all across North America.
AND... I've been working on my own method for a "meditative zen tea ceremony" and wanted to share with you my 'perfected' method (using my new tea set)! Below I discuss the origins of my method of “way of tea” as it is called in Japan. My method was borrowed from the 16th century Wabicha “way of tea” method.
The method I show you is perfected to my own taste, culture, and budget. If you also feel called to practice the zen tea ceremony as part of your spiritual/meditative practice, you might like to get a teapot that speaks to you, and use a ‘sweet’ that you prefer (say, over my super dark chocolate LOL.)
History/theory etc:
In the 16th century, the founder of Wabicha (whose name was Sen no Rikyu) reformulated the then-popular fancy Chinese and/or Korean matcha green tea ceremony to a type of ceremony more to the liking of the Japanese monks and their values: gratitude, humility, and equality.
First, Rikyu chose to replace the ornate tea-ware with ordinary kitchen items like bamboo ladles, and rice bowls used as cups. The pottery preferred was handmade and slightly imperfect. The ‘flaws’ – such as a slightly lopsided bowl, or a drip of glaze, served as artistic expression.
Also Rikyu required the ceremony to be some distance away from the main house, in order to provide respite from the busy world, and a safe place to contemplate and meditate, replenish and enjoy tranquility.
Rikyu taught that the ceremony should insure the ‘tea drinker/visitor’ have an experience that was (1) harmonious, with good feng shui and a nice selection of dishes; (2) conducted in an air of respect, where all bow in humility and equality to one another; (3) welcoming and purifying, and (4) tranquil.
It is a challenge to maintain all 4 of these at all times, but that is part of the meditation experience as well.
MY ALTERATIONS OF THE TRADITIONAL CEREMONY are to follow the original goals of Rikyu, while altering the ceremony to fit into the current life culture and lifestyle.
Instead of going to a tea house, I create my own ceremony and act as both server and recipient of the tea.
I use dishes, utensils, matcha tea, and furniture/dwelling that is readily available and convenient to me now. That means, I use my new thrift store Zen tea set, I use my matcha ordered on-line, I use my bedroom, door closed, for my tranquil and safe space, and (MOST IMPORTANTLY) I use a large wooden tray to carry my items (“my table”) from the kitchen to the location of the tea ceremony. I also do my zen tea ceremony first thing every morning in place of most people’s coffee time. Matcha and chocolate give me enough caffeine!
Carol’s ‘Way of Tea’:
...And as one pours and prepares one’s own tea, one shall focus intently on the dishes, the sounds, the aromas, the tastes of the sweet contrasted with the bitterness of the tea. One may make several small cups to keep the current cup ‘hot’ -- as well as to allow for multiple times to ‘play with the dishes’ with ASMR clinking sounds and slow, meditative breaths.
When I stir the tea counterclockwise I wish for all beings to be happy. When I stir clockwise I wish myself to be happy. When I take a sip I savor the flavor and temperature. I look into the reflection of the surface and see if any messages come to me. I set the cup down and give thanks to its beauty.
I savor the spark of joy I am feeling as I allow myself time to just ‘be’ and enjoy my favorite tea and sweet. As I pour the hot water and/or spoon the matcha, I go over all my recent affirmations (there us usually one I am working on with my daily self-help work). I also give thanks for my creative ideas and imagine my current creative projects coming to fruition in the most beautiful way.
Well, that’s it folks. Thanks for watching, and as always, may you be happy, and ‘peace’.
Carol
