Biographer Robert A. Caro gives us the inside story of one of the key sections in The Power Broker, his masterful 1974 biography of NYC infrastructure planner Robert Moses. He describes the day that he and his wife, Ina, tallied the racial makeup of the crowds visiting Jones Beach State Park, demonstrating on paper what a profound effect Robert Moses’ implemented racism had on New York.
