RoboCop Returns In the Works From District 9's Neill Blomkamp

Collider Video has confirmed that Neill Blomkamp has signed on to direct RoboCop Returns for MGM. Justin Rhodes is rewriting the script, which was written by original RoboCop scribes Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner as a sequel to the first film, though it was never shot. The new film will pick up the story line from the original film, as RoboCop fights crime and corruption in a chaotic Detroit. Neumeier will produce, while Miner will executive produce.

The original RoboCop starred Peter Weller and was directed by Paul Verhoeven, while Joel Kinnaman starred in Jose Padilha's 2014 remake, which performed well overseas despite a middling performance at the domestic box office.
