일론 머스크 전설의 인터뷰 (2009)

일론 머스크라는 인물에게 그토록 끌리는 이유는 그가 우주 정복을 꿈꿔서, 전기차 혁신을 이끌어서, 세계 최고 부자여서가 아니라... 평생에 있어 자신이 믿는 신념이 있고, 그 신념에 따라 올곧이 살아가는 것을 증명하고 있기 때문이다.

물론 그가 만든 결과가 있기에 지금의 그도 있는 것이겠지만... 한 인간으로서 자신의 삶을 바칠만한 무언가 신념을 찾았고, 그 신념에 따라 몰입하면서 살아가는 모습 자체가 부러운 것이 가장 크다. 사람은 언제나 신념이 필요하고, 신념이 있어야 고통에서 벗어날 수 있기 때문에... 그 신념이 무엇이 되었든 간에, 그 사실이 가장 부럽다. 물론 그 과정이 순탄치만은 않았겠지만.

그의 이야기를 들을 때 마다 나의 신념에 대해, 나의 인생에 대해 항상 질문을 던지게 된다. 이러한 이유 때문에 지구 반대편에 있는... 사실 만나지도 못할 이 한 사람에게 무엇보다 감사한 마음을 크게 느낀다. 이 인터뷰는 무려 15년 전 인터뷰다. 우여곡절은 많았지만, 그가 15년 전 말한 것들이 거의 다 이뤄졌다. 신기하다.
