Lee Health is a nationally recognized, award-winning health system in Southwest Florida. We are caring people, inspiring health.
Filled with 75 private rooms, a state of the art rehabilitation area, a social room, and an outside garden—the new skilled nursing facility near Gulf Coast Medical Center is helping patients get back on their feet. “We are really focusing on that transition of the acute care from the hospital and going home into the community,” explained Matthew Lessig, a skilled nursing administrator with Lee Health.
After a hospital stay, many patients are not ready to go home, so the skilled nursing facility offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and clinical assistance to help patients with their recovery. “We are a great spot for them to get stronger, get a little bit healthier, obviously we want to make sure they are safe when they go back home, and this is the right place to do it,” said Lessig.
A patient’s stay is typically between 15 and 20 days, depending on their needs. “We do have cardiac patients, we do COPD, we’ll do patients that had an ortho, and they need some rehab before they go home, you’ll see falls with fractures, things like that,” he said.
The three-story facility is designed to help patients feel at home. “We really promote our patients to get outside the four walls, and go to our dining area, go to our bistro on each floor, go to the gym; we have a beautiful courtyard. We definitely want our patients actually being mobile and getting around the building,” Lessig said.
The goal is to get patients home safely and keep them from having to go back to the hospital. “Lee Health’s main priority is to reduce readmissions, so if we can get them to the safest entity first, just for the longevity of the care, it’s in the best interest for them,” he said.
Offering quality care to help patients get home and back to their normal routine.
