E36 Manual Swap & Rebuilt M50 First Start | e36 Drift Build Ep5

In this episode we attempted to start the M50B25 for the first time. Picking up from where we left off last episode, the engine was removed from the stand so the clutch and flywheel can be installed. Following that the gearbox and starter motor was installed. The chassis was also prepared to accept the new motor with clutch hydraulics installed and manual pedals. The engine mounts were also replaced with delrin mounts made inhouse on the lathe. Engine installation wasn’t without its challenges unfortunately damaging an easily replaceable part. Once the engine was installed it was onto plumbing and wiring. After being topped up with fresh oil the M50B25 was ready to be primed by cranking the engine with the fuel pump disconnected. However, a crucial aspect of the wiring was missed which prevented the engine from being able to crank. Once this was addressed, it was onto trying to start the freshly rebuilt motor for the first time. On the next episode we will move onto getting the car back on the road and driving!
