Dr. B. Ungar: Hello. I'm sure you've heard many people suffering from headaches. Sometimes headaches that are so severe they're debilitating. The patient cannot go to work, have to lay in a dark room, cold. A lot of times patients I believe are misdiagnosed. If the headaches become severe with a little bit of some auras or flashing lights, right away the allopathic doctors want to call it a migraine.
Dr. B. Ungar: What I have the experience in 33 years of my practice is something quite different. Hello, I'm Dr. Brent Ungar from Belden Village Chiropractic and Wellness Center, and today I'm going to talk a little bit about headaches. What I have found over the years, most individuals they have been diagnosed with headaches, I believe have been misdiagnosed, or haven't been addressed all the appropriate factors that are leading to the headaches.
Dr. B. Ungar: The most common headaches that I find that is missed is what I called cervicogenic headaches. The headaches themselves stem from the neck. That's what the word cervicogenic means in Latin, means to come from the neck. It radiates up into the head. When we have different motions of the neck or abnormal motion to the neck, we start to cause stress into the muscles, the joints, the capsules, and onto the nerves. It triggers a response that triggers up to the occipital recurrent nerve to the head, and you may have headaches that are behind the eye or at the back of the head, or both temporals. It can move to left to right.
Dr. B. Ungar: There's not one particular thing that triggers the headaches. And a lot of times that's a factor that I really look for when I'm asking the patient to explain their headaches to me, is there truly isn't a factor that triggers it. So therefore it's what I call activities of daily living.
Dr. B. Ungar: What does that mean? The things that you do everyday could be the contributing factor of why the headaches aren't going away. Poor posture maybe sitting at a desk or working at a computer so long. Looking to the side of the desk. You could have bad tech neck, looking down at your laptop or your phone. A lot of times we see is improper sleeping habits.
Dr. B. Ungar: A vast majority of the individuals I talk to really get into the depth of their history of their complaint, their sleeping problems or habits are terrible. They're belly sleepers. They sleep with multiple pillows. They sleep with a very, very thin pillow. All these ae factors that I look at to address, because one of the biggest thing if I don't address the underlying factors that are causing the problem, we can never get to the root of the problem.
Dr. B. Ungar: It's kind of saying that I have a quart low when I pull out my dipstick, I added oil, now I don't have a problem. You do. You just got rid of the symptom.
Dr. B. Ungar: So what I'm offering you is to call this office at the number below, and let me look to see if any of these other factors are contributing factors that are causing your problem to be chronic. If you're using pills on a regular basis, anti-inflammatories, Advil, or if you call your headaches 'normal', they are not normal. Please give me a chance to sit down with you, have a consultation with you, and let's explore whether or not I think I can help you.
Dr. B. Ungar: Again, I'm Dr. Brent Ungar from Belden Village Chiropractic and Wellness Center. I wish you'd give me a call. Look forward to talking to you.
