Cupra Leon 2023 detailed review: Is this hot hatch a better bet than a VW Golf GTI or Audi S3?

Is the cheaper Cupra Leon hot hatch a better bet than the Audi S3 or VW Golf GTI? It shares plenty with both, but could surprise you with its price and model range.

That's because, unlike the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3/S3 model ranges, the Cupra Leon hatchback has the choice of a few different tunes of turbo-petrol engines, but also scores a more eco-friendly option in the form of the Cupra Leon VZe plug-in hybrid.

Is that part-petrol, part-electric car the way to go? Or should you choose either the base model Cupra Leon V, or mid-range Cupra Leon VZ? Or the full-fat, VW Golf R rivalling Cupra Leon VZx?
