The system was developed in the United States by John E. Reid in the 1950s.
Reid was a polygraph expert and former Chicago police officer.
The Reid Technique assumes that guilty individuals experience greater nervousness than innocent individuals when questioned by law enforcement.
The Reid Technique involves three components
Factual analysis
Interviewing
Interrogation
The interrogation “should only occur when the investigator is reasonably certain of the suspect's involvement in the issue under investigation.”
