(8 Nov 2013) A Libyan medical official on Friday raised the death toll to two from intense clashes overnight between rival militias in the capital, Tripoli.
The fighting on Thursday was sparked by the death of a militia commander from the western city of Misrata.
The clashes took place in the eastern Suq al-Juma district of Tripoli where a five star hotel bore bullet marks and shattered window glass from the attack.
Worshippers gathering for Friday prayers expressed their anger at the attack and what they said was inaction by the government.
"Our demand is to bring down the government as soon as possible. Not today, not tomorrow but yesterday night. We are living in a jungle, where is the government? No one came from the government," said Naji Kherwat, a local resident.
After Friday prayers, residents held an anti-government protest outside the mosque.
"The army institutions are what is needed now, I say to the Libyan people, come out to the streets and demand for your army institutions. Where is our army? Where is our police?" demanded another Tripoli resident said Faisal Al-Deeb.
The Libyan government has been struggling to contain the numerous militias who control many parts of the country.
Two years after the overthrow of Moammar Gadhafi, Libya still has no constitution and divisions between various forces have paralysed parliament.
