Quarantine Isolation Hibernation Box (installation 1), in which you can go to sleep for 2 weeks or 3 months, and sleep safely the quarantine or the pandemic out. It is a safe spot, a very small room, closed and opened from the inside, in panic even dismantlable, made from rustic wood, 4 windows, so no claustrophobic feeling. A performance will be held by me going to sleep (24/7 with the help of anaesthetics) in this box for 2 weeks, showing it will works. There will be a drip, oxygen, light, ventilator, hart monitor, etc. So the photo’s I’ll show here are of a not finished Isolation Box. The space will be fitted with some essentials and the bed will be made up with white sheets.
De box is exactly the size of a single person matrass but 90cm high so you can sit in it in case you wake up and so you can read or do a bit of works, check your phone, etc. and go back to sleep. If you need you can leave the space easy trough the 3 side windows or the roof window, or move the whole lit or kick out one of the side walls, air comes in from the 8 round anti bacterial and virus filters (also keeps out dust, Co2, gasses, etc).
Important, the box is a building packed, so easy transport and storage assured:
To do not have to eat you will have to sleep (medicines (Citalopram / Diazepam and light coma nar-cotic) will keep you in a coma sleep (and in one position)) 3 months of calories so you eat before you go in to the box for your Hibernation (winter Chocolate cake), Vernation (spring / eastern style of cake), Eastivation (summer / summer fruit and berry cake) or Autimnation (autumn / brownie nut and raisin cake) sleep, so I made 4 special “cakes” (40cm in diameter 5cm or 10cm thick), all with healthy and natural ingredients, that give you 250.000 calories, needed for a male, female uses 25% less. The Isolation box is like the hole the bear makes when he goes into hibernation, but then spe-cially made for humans. Off course the couples isolation box and the family isolation box are the next steps.
Some explanation I took from some discussions on Facebook about this project:
Friend: It all looks really scary! I guess you have thought this through - it is crazy though. Even fol-lowing your posts, I don’t really get the concept. Will you explain a bit more in detail before you start this?
Camilio: just saying: I am not ill, just want to test / experiment this possibility, as social isolation for 2 weeks, and me awake, would freak me out. I need social contact every day. I have a severe Anxiety disorder, but also heard some negative (and positive or neutral) experiences from friends and acquaintances. We are not made for social isolation, at least the most of us.
The infusion drip will contain Citalopram (antidepressant), diazepam (anti panic) and a coma narcot-ic, operation narcotic / anaesthesia, applied to me in a low dose.
Friend: it does sound extreme! I am also still wondering, why this small box if you want to undergo social isolation? I mean you can also be socially isolated in a room of 2 by 2 where you can still move around a bit? Also, will you be 'asleep' the whole time? Because then again, it sounds to me like you are not really experiencing social isolation, as you won't be mentally present...?
Camilio: The last sentence is exactly the point and I think the worlds governments non prepara-tions to an epidemic/pandemic like this (as was predicted the last 30 years) is extreme, and put people in 2 week quarantine social isolation or 3 months lockdowns or state of emergency is quite extreme (because we could have prevented it). And let me remind you, this is an art installation and a performance. It seems extreme, but it is just an alternative though put into an idea to realisa-tion. That is what some artist do, it is my job.
What I also find very extreme is our inability (or the non will(because of consumentistic capitalistic globalism) to stop global warming, poverty, animal cruelty (extensive farming), extension of insects (the numbers went down 70% the last years) and wild animals (60% has extinct the last 30 years), chopping down the rainforests, Australia, America and the tundra (Russia) on bushfires.
Friend: that is a good reminder ;-) and thanks for explaining a bit more, that it is also a protest to current measurements in place against the pandemic.
Camilio: Yes, of course. But to specify and narrow down my protest, it is against what the govern-ments not did for the last 30 (maybe50 years), like listen to the scientists, have enough ICU beds ready, mouth masks, sensitise the people, close down wet markets worldwide, take care of the environment and nature, etc. the result are necessary, but extreme measurements because taken in panic and unprepared.
