Tapah, the 16th typhoon of this year, made landfall in south China's Guangdong Province at about 8:50 Monday, according to the provincial meteorological observatory.

The typhoon, with the maximum wind force near its center reaching 30 meters per second, churned ashore at Jiangmen City in the province.

Meteorological authorities forecast that Tapah will continue moving northwest at about 20 km per hour, gradually weakening.

As of 07:00 Monday, meteorological departments across Guangdong Province had issued one red alert for heavy rain, 14 orange alerts for typhoon, 40 yellow alerts for typhoon and 34 orange alerts for heavy rain.

According to the emergency department of Guangdong’s Yangjiang City, it is expected that a medium to large wave process of 1.5 to 3 meters will occur in the nearshore waters of Yangjiang on Monday. A blue wave warning has also been issued for the nearshore waters.
