An attempted burglary of an ATM at Berwick-Upon-Tweed train station has led to a man being sentenced to 11 years in prison.

After shutting off the lines to the concourse, Craig Stewart Jepson used an explosive device to blast open the ATM, causing a powerful blast that left the area covered in dust and glass. He left the scene with £100,000 in cash and a trail of evidence that led to his arrest.

But this wasn't Jepson's only criminal act. Months earlier, he and three other gang members attempted to break into an ATM at Lancaster station. Armed with cutting discs and crowbars, they spent over an hour trying to breach the machine, causing thousands of pounds in damage.

The gang's plan collapsed when a rail staff member arrived and alerted the police. In their panic, they abandoned their tools, which, along with DNA evidence and CCTV footage, directly linked Jepson and his accomplices to the scene.

Following a series of investigations by British Transport Police, Matthew Mark Doyle, Daniel Ashley Grant, and Michael Peter Waine all pleaded guilty to the Lancaster burglary attempt. Doyle, Grant, and Waine each received three years and four months in prison, while Jepson received an 11-year sentence for both incidents.
