I'll be showing you how to make a perfect presentation on this week's episode of MasterTalk. Register for one of my FREE communication trainings: https://www.rockstarcommunicator.com/
1. Write a VERY clear set of outcomes and learnings from your keynote. (0:41)
Whenever I build a presentation, I always spend a good 30min-1h just thinking over what I’m trying to achieve with the time I have. I go over some bullet points I’ve written down, but the most important part is figuring out what I want my audience to say and how I want them to REACT to my message. This is how to make a perfect presentation.
My keynote on public speaking fundamentals, the goal with that presentation is to simply convince my audience that they should start practising and working on their communication skills – that’s it. If I achieve that outcome, my presentation is successful in my eyes.
The next question after that is figuring out how to make sure that gets done, I use things like playful stories at the beginning of my keynote about my own personal struggles with public speaking all the way down to very practical advice on the topic to help convince them that this is something that’s very concrete that they can work with.
2. Brainstorm with a group of high achievers that want to see you win. (2:40)
I never work alone with keynotes except the 1st draft. As soon as I build it the first time, I immediately send it to 25-50 of my closest friends and ask for their feedback, for ideas on how I go about the ideas in my workshops. When I started working on my 1st keynote, I used to present it to 2-3 of my friends every WEEK over a couple of MONTHS and I still do that to this day.
Making presentation is a daunting and not so fun process for many people, so the key, that I use myself, is making it FUN, it’s simple, yet so little actually implement it. Go out with your friends, buy some great food and munch on some great snacks as you’re all putting your heads together on this presentation. This is how to make a perfect presentation.
You’ll get a lot of great ideas, maybe an image that you should be adding, a sentence you can put on another slide, a story that you forgot to put in, your friends will help pull those stories out for you and give you great ideas to think about.
3. Make your presentations bulletproof by inviting the best people you know to it. (4:29)
Since you made it this far in the video, I thought I’d share a tip that not many people will end up implementing, but that’s EXTREMELY effective if you really want to be the best in the topic you want to present on (especially if you’re playing the role of a teacher). After I’ve brainstormed, given the presentation a few times and have a clear set out of outcomes, I start the process of making it bulletproof. What does that mean? This is how to make a perfect presentation.
I ask the smartest people that I know to gather in a room and rip apart my presentation. So, let’s say I present for 40 minutes, that is followed by 1-2 HOURS of questions on my presentation until everything becomes a mess. This isn’t clear – go to Slide 22, why did you say that?
Did you think about this, what about that? On and on again, until every slide in my presentation is called into question. The reason I left this for last is because not everyone wants to master public speaking as badly as others, but if you want to be the best, you need to strive to be perfect.
