"7th Heaven" Chair on Blackcomb always opens later than most chairs at Whistler Blackcomb. As one of two alpine access chairs on Blackcomb it opens up a lot of new terrain for access. However we are experiencing a low snow base this year (under 150cm/ 5ft), and much of the terrain is extremely exposed and basically unrideable. Although access is not closed, there are several signs encouraging skiers/ riders to stay on the marked runs and avoid certain areas (e.g. Lakeside Bowl).

Winds have been quite intense the weeks prior to this day, and Caspian (riding with us) has been up a few days prior splitboarding, so we were expecting conditions to be exposed. Middle and lower elevations are natural forested, and is much better protected from wind. Access involved a sphincter tightening icy road, with wind blown rock gardens on the sides. Low angle alpine fields offered improved conditions and as we got lower and into more dense forest it got softer and deeper.
