Tools Needed:

🧵 Pattern Paper
🧵 Ruler
🧵 French Curve
🧵 Tape Measure
🧵 Pen & Pencil
🧵 Sharpener & Eraser
🧵 Marker
🧵 Measurements

Measurements Needed:

📍Waist Circumference
📍 Hip Circumference
📍 Hip Depth (Waist to Hip)
📍 Crotch Depth (Waist to Crotch)
📍 Length of Pants

Steps:

1. Draw a horizontal and vertical line representing the waist and pants length respectively.

2. Draw a 1” space for the elastic waistband and another 1” space for the waistband to be folded unto.

3. Measure from the top of the second 1” space to the hem of the pants. This should measure the length of your pants.

4. Draw a 1” space for the elastic that will go into the hem of the joggers.

5. From the top of the second 1” space at the waist, measure down your hip depth (waist to hip) and mark. Square a line out from your mark using the L-square.

6. Measure again from the second 1” space at the waist, down your crotch depth (waist to crotch) and mark. Square a line out from your mark using the L-Square.

7. Divide your hip circumference by 4 and add 1/2” then mark on the waist line, hip line and crotch line.

8. Extend the crotch line by 2”.

9. Use the L-square to connect the waist line, hip line and crotch line.

10. Draw a 1” line out from the corner of the crotch line.

11. Use the french curve to draw in a curve and ensure that it touches the horizontal line, the vertical line and the diagonal line that you drew out from the corner.

12. Divide your ankle circumference by 2 and add an extra 1” or more and mark it on the hem line.

13. Use the metre rule to connect the crotch line and the hem line with a straight line.

14. Add 1/2” allowance around the pattern except for the top of the waist and the bottom of the hem and label your pattern.

15. Cut it out from the pattern paper and retrace it into another piece of pattern paper.

16. Extend the crotch by 1 1/2” and draw a line connecting the new crotch to the hem. This is the back of your pattern. Cut it out.

17. For the side seam pocket, draw a vertical line and from that vertical line freestyle a pocket that will fit your hand, a phone if you’d like and any other item(s) you might put inside.

18. Add 1/2” allowance around the pocket, label it and cut it out.

And that’s it!

If you want to make shorts instead of pants, make the length equal to the length you want your shorts and ignore the steps for the hem. Simple add 1/2” allowance to the hem.
