Obra comentada: Moisés salvado de las aguas, de Veronés (hacia 1580)

Miguel Falomir, Jefe del Departamento de Pintura Italiana y Francesa (hasta 1700) del Museo Nacional del Prado, comenta la obra Moisés salvado de las aguas (hacia 1580) de Paolo Veronés

Al finalizar la década de 1570 y en los primeros años de la siguiente, Veronés realizó una serie de pinturas impregnadas de un sentimiento arcádico de la naturaleza donde el paisaje adquirió un protagonismo inexistente en su producción anterior. El hallazgo de Moisés (Éxodo 2; 5-10) se prestaba a un tratamiento pictórico acorde con estas premisas, permitiéndole desplegar su gusto por una puesta en escena fastuosa sin transgredir los límites impuestos por la reforma tridentina.

On the occasion of the exhibition Captive Beauty from Fra Angelico to Fortuny, Miguel Falomir, Head of Department Italian and French Painting (to 1700) at the Museo Nacional del Prado, comments on the work The Finding of Moses, Paolo Caliari, Il Veronese, (Ca. 1580).

This scene from the Old Testament (Exodus II, 5-6) depicts the moment when the Pharaoh's daughter and her ladies-in-waiting remove from the Nile River the basket in which baby Moses was placed by his Hebrew mother in order to save him from the slaughter of boy children ordered by that ruler.
