End of the 19th century . Russian Empire , Azerbaijan . Two circus actors, San Sanych and Rustam, come to Rustam’s homeland after learning about his grandmother’s illness. While waiting for the horses that will take them to Rustam's village, the friends go to the local theater, where they have a clash over the hat of the local bandit Jafar (a big music lover), for which Jafar swears to take revenge. On the way to the village, bandits are chasing friends. It is possible to break away only by destroying the bridge over a stormy river. Rustam fails to see his grandmother alive - they only have time for her funeral. Despite the fact that it is already almost the 20th century and various innovations have even reached here, the mountaineers live by old customs and orders. It turns out that local residents still remember how Rustam “did not avenge his murdered father and ran away like a coward” - he refused to follow the custom of blood feud and did not kill his bloodline.

Конец XIX века. Российская империя, Азербайджан. Двое цирковых актёров, Сан Саныч и Рустам, приезжают на родину Рустама, узнав о болезни его бабушки. В ожидании лошадей, которые отвезут их в деревню Рустама, друзья идут в местный театр, где из-за папахи местного бандита Джафара (большого любителя музыки) у них происходит стычка, за которую Джафар клянётся отомстить. По дороге в деревню за друзьями гонятся бандиты. Оторваться удаётся, лишь разрушив мост через бурную речку. Увидеть бабушку живой Рустаму не удаётся — они успевают только на её похороны. Несмотря на то, что на дворе уже почти XX век и различные новшества добрались даже сюда, горцы живут старыми обычаями и порядками. Выясняется, что местные жители до сих пор помнят, как Рустам «не отомстил за своего убитого отца и сбежал как трус» — отказался следовать обычаю кровной мести и не стал убивать своего кровника.
