Скачать или смотреть OPCW Head: BZ Toxin Samples Has Nothing to Do With Salisbury Samples on the Skripal Case

No BZ toxin claimed by Russia has been detected in the samples collected in the British city of Salisbury, said head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Laboratory at a special meeting in The Hague on Wednesday.

The second OPCW Executive Council's meeting, which was called by the United Kingdom (UK), aimed at discussing the poisoning of former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal in UK. The former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious in Britain's southwestern city of Salisbury on March 4.

Marc-Michael Blum, head of OPCW Laboratory and leader of the technical assistance team stationed in the UK made the statement on the test result and the working procedure on the special meeting. He said that no BZ toxin was detected in the samples.

OPCW Director General Ahmet Uzumucu stressed that the technical capacity and reliability of the designated laboratories have been subject to close and rigorous scrutiny, thus the result is trustworthy.

A statement released last Thursday by the OPCW said it had completed the sample analysis of the poisoning incident and confirmed the results of UK authorities' analysis, which held that the use of poison in the incident was a military-grade nerve agent. However, the statement did not specify the name and structure of the chemical agent, only saying that it has presented the information in a non-public report to all state parties. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said last Saturday that, according to their information obtained through back channel, BZ toxin was detected from the samples collected from Salisbury but not Novichok as alleged by the UK.

The OPCW held the first special meeting of the Executive Council on April 4 at the request of Russia. At that meeting, Russia proposed to have a joint Russian-British or multinational investigation under the framework of the OPCW. But the proposal was rejected.
