The Laureus sportsman of the year will be announced in spring 2023 but the nominees this year include the likes of Rafael Nadal, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Max Verstappen, Steph Curry, Mondo Duplantis. All the nominees have had great success in 2022 but according to Rafa Nadal noone deserves the award more than Lionel Messi. Messi who won the Golden Ball was instrumental in Argentina winning the FIFA world cup after 36 years. Rafa announced his support in Instagram story to his Messi also responded saying he was overwhelmed.
