Russian President Putin’s grip on power shaken after Wagner compromise

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s grip on power may be shaken from the episode with the Wagner mercenary force, but he still holds control in the country with support of the security services, the military, and the National Guard. But the turn of events which saw the Wagner revolt quickly turn into a compromise were nonetheless surprising, with a longer-term impact on Mr Putin’s strongman image upon which he built his regime. Dr Aurel Braun, professor of International Relations and Political Science at the University of Toronto, shares more with CNA’s Asia First.
