Fun with Orange Guitar Amplifiers: the Orange Crush Pro 120 and Micro Dark!

How do you get tube sound from a solid state amp for your guitar? Add in part of a tube amplifier of course! My regular amplifier is solid state, but, a hybrid tube amplifier from the same company can connect right into the system. The hybrid amplifier costs about as much as a good guitar pedal so is an affordable solution to have the reliability of a solid state amplifier and a nice tube gain sound.

The key to this match up is that both of the amplifiers have effects loops that allow the tube preamplifier stage to connect into the power stage of the power amplifier. Its not quite the same as a full tube amplifier, but its a nice addition!

The basic connection is to take the effects loop "send" of the first amplifier and connect it to the "return" of the second. As the hybrid amplifier has a tube preamplifier and a solid state output it doesn't have to be connected to a load such as a speaker cabinet. Remember, all fully tube amplifiers must ALWAYS be connected correctly to a set of speakers.
