വരയാടുകളുടെ താഴ്വര | Eravikulam National park | Gap Road | Chinnakanal | Anayirangal Dam

Last week I set myself out on a motorcycle ride to Munnar and the surroundings. It was just a two-day trip and my main goal was to reach Kolukkumalai on the Kerala Tamilnadu border. Kolukkumalai is a small village/hamlet in Bodinayakanur Taluk in the Theni district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

But on the way, I decided to visit Eravikulam national park as it was a long overdue. The national park just got open before a week, after a month-long closure as it was the calving season for Nilgiri Tahr. I spent almost three hours in the national park, and it was a pleasant experience for me.
The species, Nilgiri Tahr is found in a roughly 400 km stretch in the Western Ghats which falls in the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

After visiting Eravikulam national park, I also managed to find some time to ride my motorcycle along Gap road, one among the best roads in Kerala. With beautiful tea plantations and hills on both sides, this place is purely a heaven. You'll find the most picturesque section of the Gap Road, 13 km away from Munnar, between Devikulam and Periyakanal.

Chinnakanal, famous for Arikomban, also lies on the same route. I also got some good views of Anayirangal dam as well.

കഴിഞ്ഞ ആഴ്ച ഞാൻ മൂന്നാറിലേക്കും പരിസരങ്ങളിലേക്കും മോട്ടോർ സൈക്കിൾ സവാരി നടത്തി. കേവലം രണ്ട് ദിവസത്തെ യാത്ര മാത്രമായിരുന്നു അത്, കേരള തമിഴ്നാട് അതിർത്തിയിലുള്ള കൊളുക്കുമലയിൽ എത്തുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു എൻ്റെ പ്രധാന ലക്ഷ്യം. ഇന്ത്യൻ സംസ്ഥാനമായ തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെ തേനി ജില്ലയിലെ ബോഡിനായ്ക്കനൂർ താലൂക്കിലെ ഒരു ചെറിയ ഗ്രാമമാണ് കൊളുക്കുമല.

എന്നാൽ യാത്രാമധ്യേ ഇരവികുളം നാഷണൽ പാർക്ക് സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. വരയാടുകളുടെ പ്രസവസമയമായതിനാൽ ഒരു മാസത്തെ അടച്ചുപൂട്ടലിന് ശേഷം ഒരാഴ്ച മുമ്പ് ദേശീയോദ്യാനം തുറന്നു. കേരളം, തമിഴ്നാട് സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ പതിക്കുന്ന പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഏകദേശം 400 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരത്തിലാണ് വരയാട് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഞാൻ ഏകദേശം മൂന്ന് മണിക്കൂറോളം ദേശീയ ഉദ്യാനത്തിൽ ചെലവഴിച്ചു, അത് എനിക്ക് സന്തോഷകരമായ ഒരു അനുഭവമായിരുന്നു.

ഇരവികുളം നാഷണൽ പാർക്ക് സന്ദർശിച്ച ശേഷം, കേരളത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച റോഡുകളിലൊന്നായ ഗ്യാപ്പ് റോഡിലൂടെ മോട്ടോർ സൈക്കിൾ ഓടിക്കാൻ എനിക്ക് കുറച്ച് സമയം കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിഞ്ഞു. മനോഹരമായ തേയിലത്തോട്ടങ്ങളും ഇരുവശങ്ങളിലും കുന്നുകളുമുള്ള ഈ സ്ഥലം തികച്ചും ഒരു സ്വർഗ്ഗമാണ്. മൂന്നാറിൽ നിന്ന് 13 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ ദേവികുളത്തിനും പെരിയകനാലിനും ഇടയിലുള്ള ഗ്യാപ്പ് റോഡിൻ്റെ ഏറ്റവും മനോഹരമായ ഭാഗം നിങ്ങൾക്ക് കാണാം.

ചിന്നക്കനാലും ഇതേ റൂട്ടിലാണ്. ആനയിറങ്കൽ അണക്കെട്ടിൻ്റെ നല്ല കാഴ്ചകളും എനിക്ക് ലഭിച്ചു.
