Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box for the Lippert 1621 pin boxes, has a 21,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this will let you enjoy a nice smooth stable towing with your 5th wheel trailer by replacing your ordinary pin box with this air ride equip model pin box. Now, this is the Curt Flex Air pin box, which is an exact replacement of the Lippert Flex Air pin box, has the internal air bag on it right down in here, has the built in shock to help reduce any chucking and absorb road shock for a nice smoother ride as you tow your trailer. This is an air ride pin box, has the pivoting head right down here at the bottom, replaces your standard pin box on the 5th wheel trailer, and that's to cushion you ride, improve handling, limit the strain on the truck and the trailer. Does minimize any chucking, eliminates the bouncing and the jarring, and we mentioned, the internal air bag right down here, this will absorb the road shock.
Has a scissor-like motion, in other words, you can see the pivot point right here, so basically, gives you the scissor-like motion right there to compress and compensate for any jarring or bouncing. The shock right here on the end, this built-in shock will ensure that the pin box rebounds, keeps your air bag from breaking down. Now, I did wanna zoom in to get you a closeup of the the air bag we're talking about. This air bag here, you will inflate it with air, right up here is your valve stem, you just remove the valve cap, hook your air hose to that, and basically, you inflate the air bag with enough air to raise the pin box to the ride height mark, and that ride height mark is indicated here on the front of the shock absorber. They have a little words printed here that says inflate to this mark, and then there's a mark there.
So what you'll do is the starting pressure should be about 80 to 90 psi, and then you keep increasing the pressure until you hit that ride height mark. Now, you do not wanna exceed 120 psi, so when you're filling this with air, you should either stop when it reaches that ride height mark or 120 psi, whichever comes first. The minimum pressure you wanna have in this air bag is about 45 psi. A pivoting head right down here, this will help limit the chucking by allowing controlled movement of the kingpin within your hitch. Has a rubber compound that's built into the head that'll absorb any road shock, helps reduce wear and tear on the trailer, and this is a nice sturdy steel construction, has a nice black powder coat finish on it to provide rust resistance.
Now, the kingpin right down here, this is what'll connect to any standard 5th wheel trailer hitch. Now, this Curt Flex Air pin box will install in place of the Lippert 1621 5th wheel pin box on your 5th wheel trailer. The air ride pin box will use the same bolts that held on your original pin box, so there's no additional hardware required to install it, plus, when you get this, it'll come out of the box just like this, all ready to put on your trailer, so there's no assembly needed. Now, one thing I do wanna mention, because this air ride pin box is quite heavy, it's probably a little over 230 pounds, we do recommend to have a friend help you support its weight during installation. It is made in the USA.
Few specs on it, again, we mention weight capacity of 21,000 pounds, and then last thing we'll do is give you some measurements on this. The critical measurements on the pin box are gonna be the overall width, which is measured outside to outside, so if we do that, it's 12 inches. And then the last two measurements are gonna be from the center of the kingpin to the center of the front row of holes, and from the center of the kingpin to the center of the back row holes. So the center of the kingpin, I put a mark right up here, pretty much is where the pivot bolt is. So if we put the ruler on there and we go to the front row of holes, it's gonna be 20 3/4 inches, and if we go to the back row of holes, it's gonna be 28 5/8 inches. But that should do it for the review on the Curt Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box for the Lippert 1621 pin boxes, and this has a 21,000 pound gross towing weight capacity..
