Welcome to the very first Necromancer Rising devlog. This is the beginning of my indie game development journey — raw, real, and without shortcuts.

About This Devlog
Right now, my Necromancer character (using the base Unreal Engine 5.6 mannequin, male version) has:
Basic movement and jump in all 8 directions
A proper third-person camera setup
Shared animation logic for male/female characters (though I may add a unique female idle later)

Currently, I’m stuck trying to implement turn-in-place mechanics. Most tutorials I’ve found are outdated or don’t work for UE 5.5–5.6, and even AI support hasn’t given me the step-by-step help I need. But that’s part of the process: failing, retrying, and slowly learning.

About Me & the Project
I’m completely new to Unreal Engine. I’m a retired gamer (born 1972), starting this as a personal hobby project. The game and Etsy store are officially owned by my Thai girlfriend, while I am the creative half.
For over 25 years I’ve played MMORPGs, Diablo, Path of Exile, and many others. I always felt something was missing, and over time two big game ideas grew in my head. I chose to start with this one: an offline, single-player dark fantasy roguelite called Necromancer Rising. Maybe one day it could come to Steam, but for now it will remain offline only.
I’m also completely new to streaming and YouTube, so don’t expect a polished “wow” experience. What you will see is the honest journey of one beginner learning game development step by step. If that interests you, I’d love for you to follow along.
