Interview with: CHARLIE DAWE (lead singer).

John Clay a.k.a Clark Kent: Cheers for saying yes to an interview Charlie! Loved filming you guys perform Metacell. Tell me what you'd like people to get out of hearing it.

Charlie Dawe: Actually this song was a struggle at the beginning, and I was finding it hard to get the right lyrics for it. Our producer at the time, Fuzz, said "well write about that then", so I did. And it quickly dissolved in to a blend of anger and frustration. As far as my lyrics go, this is probably one of the most straight forward. Anger, hate, hitting a wall, refusing to be beaten, those kind of themes.

John: In my mind, you owe your sound to early Nine Inch Nails. Are there other, less obvious influences that you draw upon?

Charlie: Obviously our sound changes with each album, but for me the biggest influences are the blues and film scores. Which people may think is insane when listening to one of our songs, but it's in there with bells on if you know what to listen for.
For sure NIN and other 90's alt legends were my jumping off point (Smashing Pumpkins, Filter, Marilyn Manson, Hole etc.) but aside from the electronic elements I don't think we have too much in common with anyone. I think this new album is going to completely blow people's perceptions of us away.

John: I hear a lot of film score stuff in your music, especially off the quiet tracks off the album. I hope my film of your material does you justice. In closing, is there any through-line/them to the album that you can tell the viewers and your fans here?

Charlie: For Distorture or the new album?

John: The new album.

Charlie: Envy, death and the inevitable.

John: And the inevitable? Tell me more about that!

Charlie: I don't want to give too much away, but when things are set, there's nothing you can do, and you would give anything to be anyone else. Another kind of envy.
