Backend development also known as back-end or back end development. It refers to the development of server-side logic that powers websites and apps from behind the scenes.

Backend includes all the code needed to creates services that process business logic and access other resources such as databases, file servers, manages user connections, cloud services, and powers the web application itself.

Aside from making web applications functional, back-end developers are also responsible for optimizing the application for speed and efficiency.

It’s responsible for storing, organizing data, and ensuring everything on the client-side actually works. It can be an account login or making a purchase from an online store. Backend development works in tandem with the front end to deliver the final product to the end user.

Backend programming can either be object-oriented (OOP) or functional. Back end developers use languages such as Java, PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python, and .Net to get the site’s responsiveness and speed. Languages can either be statically typed or dynamically typed.

The core skills and technologies a back-end developer must know:
• Proficient knowledge of the back-end programming language and the framework that is used by the company
• Understanding of front-end web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Ability to manage a hosting environment, including database administration as well as scaling applications to handle load changes
• Knowledge of accessibility and security compliance
• Experience with version control, such as Git

They could involve writing APIs, writing code to interact with a database, creating libraries, working on business processes and data architecture, and much more. It often depends on the specific role and company.
