U.S. 7th Fleet announced a U.S. guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey (DDG-97) sailed through the Paracel Island chain in the South China Sea as part of a Freedom of Navigation Operation (FONOPS)

The statement from the U.S. 7th Fleet stated, “This freedom of navigation operation upheld the rights, freedoms, and lawful uses of the sea recognized in international law by challenging the restrictions on innocent passage imposed by the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Taiwan, and Vietnam and also by challenging the PRC’s claim to straight baselines enclosing the Paracel Islands,”

7th Fleet further added, “The ship transited through a corridor in the strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal state [and] demonstrates the United States’ commitment to upholding freedom of navigation for all nations as a principle,”
As usual, the Chinese military couldn’t do anything but tried to push a false narrative.
